This residential condominium project is located in historic downtown Charleston facing the Cooper River to the East. The narrow site conditions for this 28-unit luxury residential project allowed all units to face the harbor. To minimize the building mass on such a long site and to relate to the scale of surrounding buildings, two deeply recessed entry courtyards with connecting stone staircases to the upper floor entrances were used to break the facade into three separate masses.
These courtyards assisted in connecting an elevated building as required by flood zones to the urban fabric surrounding the building. A limestone tower was designed to anchor the building on the corner of this important intersection, and is the focal point of its’ various approaches.
